Kia Ora, welcome to the Upper Clutha River Guardians

Purpose of UCRG:

To protect and conserve the wild Upper Clutha River, including all its natural, recreational and heritage values, by preventing hydro-electric dam development, and by acting as guardians of the Upper Clutha River environment.

To join and support all environmental groups in NZ that share a common interest to end the use of fossil fuels and 19th century technology. The time has come to shift the paradigm from the old to the new, truly renewable energies that can power our nation for the generations to come.

There is no longer a place on earth for large concrete structures, oil extraction, natural gas extraction, fracking or any other mining or environmental practice that is detrimental to our existence.

Key Aims of UCRG:

  • To oppose and prevent any hydro-electric dam development on the Upper Clutha River.
  • To raise local and regional awareness about Clutha River and other catastrophic environmental issues.
  • To work along side other groups also opposing hydro-electric dam development on the Clutha River and investigation of unsustainable energy options.
  • To protect the natural, recreational and heritage values of the wild Upper Clutha River environment.
  • To provide continuous support to other groups around New Zealand that are campaigning for true energy solutions.
